As I wrote back to Gene - ' Gene, Although not proven, several coincidences lead me to believe that my Rebecca is probably the daughter of Moses Allen (#15 in your numbering scheme). 1. My Rebecca Allen married Ralph Dildine 1799/1800 in New Jersey. Ralph's family was from Hardwick Twp, Sussex Co, NJ (his father, Sampson Dildine, left a will in Hardwick Twp, Sussex Co, NJ filed in 1777; and Ralph's mother's family, the Hunts, had also been longtime Hunterdon Co and Sussex Co, NJ residents). In your research you show Moses Allen's father as dying in Hardwick Twp, Sussex Co, NJ. So - they were in relatively the same place at the same time. 2. Ralph Dildine's brother, Abram, married Jemima Allen b.21 Oct 1761 in Sussex Co, NJ, daughter of Thomas Allen and Sarah (last name unknown to Dildine researchers). It seems likely that this Jemima is the daughter of your Thomas (#11) and Sarah Opdyke. In fact there is another Dildine/Opdyke connection, Ralph's brother, Richard, married Anna Opdyke around 1800 in NJ. 3. Ralph and Rebecca (Allen) Dildine moved to Crawford Co, PA in 1800 and are included in the 1800 census there. Rebecca is listed as in the 16-26 year old category, so she was born between 1774 and 1784. Moses Allen also moved to Crawford Co, Pa (you show him as dying there), and according to the following excerpt found at Ancestry.com, he also moved to Crawford Co, Pa in 1800. 'NJ Gen. Register Sarah Whittaker b. 1755/60 m. Moses ALLEN of Hardwick abt. 1776. children Jonathan, Wm.,Stephen, Eliphelet, Marym Jeremiah, Sarah, Rebecca, Abigail, Hannah,Phoebe. Sarah Wwhittaker d.1844 Espyville, Pa. NJ Gen. Reg. Allen, Moses b. 1755 enlisted Sussex Co. Militia at Hardwick Sep. 1776, d. 8-31-1833. Removed 17 8-1800 to Crawford Co.,Pa.' I don't have that in my notes for her, but it makes sense to me. Moses Allen is described in Genealogies of New Jersey Families as the son of George Allen and ? Collins. See Volume 2, p 278. Ralph Dildine is also discussed in the HUNT family records in GNJF. The truth is, I don't know that your Rebecca was Moses Allen's daughter, I just think so. The main problem with the theory is that George Allen is shown to be son of William Allen and he the son of Annanias Allen. The geography of the Moses McCollum farm coincides with a “different” Allen family (mine). The main point I suppose, is that I believe these are all branches of the same Allen family, but can't prove it. Note that Sarah Whitaker had a number of siblings, Phoebe, who married Francis Peppard who became pastor at the Sussex Yellow Frame Church. This Whitaker family is weel established in the Basking Ridge and Mine Mount areas of Somerset county. If you can establish a link between your Rebecca and the congregation of the Yellow Frame Church, then I will be much more confident of the connection. I will also be very interested to know, because I believe that two of Samuel Allen's sons may have married into the Sussex HUNT family. (To daughters of Thomas Hunt, Ralph Dildine's uncle.) This would further connect the families of the two areas. I am copying this e-mail to another cousin, Joan Landrum, in the hope that she can provide some clarifying information about one or two of these families. She has a great deal of info on the Whitaker family. Regards, John

I have very little on them so far other than a few bits kindly given by John Allen. Do you know why you list Rebecca as a daughter of Moses and Sarah Whitaker Allen? I have found a few people all showing Rebecca as Moses/Sarah's daughter, and am trying to compile a list of 'pointers' that have led people to pencil her in. Maybe all these 'pointers' will add up! In my case, I first penciled in Rebecca's parentage based on the following: Ralph and Rebecca (Allen) Dildine moved to Crawford Co, PA in 1800 and are included in the 1800 census there. Rebecca is listed as in the 16-26 year old category, so she was born between 1774 and 1784. Francis Peppard married Phoebe Whitaker one month after his ordination, in May of 1764. I have that Sarah was born abt 1753, so she would have been 11 at the time of her sister's wedding. From Joan we know that “Phoebe raised his motherless children who had remained with the McCollum family after their mother died.” So it seems conceivable that John's son, Moses, had the family farm when Phoebe married, and possibly Phoebe raised her sister along with her husband's children on Moses McCollum's farm????
