NOTES: THE PARIS NEWS, Mon., Feb. 3, 1997, p.5A: '(Picture) John Wesley Burns, 68, 2400 Briarwood, Paris, died at 12:45 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 1997, at his home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, in Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmie Stripland officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. He was born Oct. 22, 1928, in Paris to Elton Jack and Myrtle Carrie Lister Burns. He married Jean Baxley Oct. 7, 1978, in Paris. He as a graduate of Paris High School and Paris Junior Junior College and attended the University of Texas at Austin. He graduated from East Texas State University in 1954 with a B.B.A. degree an obtained his master's degree in 1955. He retired from the Veteran's Administration Hospital system, having served as chief accountant and financial manager of VA hospitals in Columbia, SC, Houston and Dallas. Mr Burns was a veteran of the Army, serving in the 2nd Armored Division and the 6th Armored Cavalry Regiment in Germany during the occupation period. He also served in the Texas State Guard, the Texas National Guard and the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force Reserves. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and past member of the American Legion. He also held memberships in the Paris Elks Lodge, Sons of Confederate Veterans and was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Survivors are his beloved wife, Jean; his daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Mark Henry of Gladewater and Priscilla and Tommy Eaker of Longview; three sons by marriage and their spouses, Tom Baxley of Johnson City, TN, Ted an Christine Baxley of Lewisville, Kelly and Cindy Baxley of Carrollton; and by five grandchildren, Stephen Henry, Matthew Henry, Ryan Eaker, Andrew Eaker and Nathaniel Baxley. Pallbearers will be Tom Baxley, Ted Baxley, Kelly Baxley, Mark Henry, Tommy Eaker, Clyde Bradford, Carl Mac Coker, Stephen Henry and Jonny Fisher.'
