Source: http://genforum.genealogy.com/caton/messages/55.html Are these the same John, Moses, Solomon, etc who are later listed in the Newbern District Census of 1790? There is a Jesse Caton listed in the Quaker Encyclopedia in the Western Branch MM on the 25 Feb 1769. That meeting incl Nansemond, Isle of Wight, Norfolk Cos in VA. So perhaps they were in Virginia first and then NC?

Sorry for the lack of info. Jesse Caton b. 20 Apr. 1762 in MD. He m. in Rowan Co., NC in 1787 to Esther Sparks. His death was ca. 1854 in Warren Co., MO. He was the son of Charles Caton and Jemima Summers. Another researcher who proved ancestry through his son, Noah, into the DAR lists these children: Noah, Jesse,Jr., Jonas, Elizabeth, Nancy, Jemima, Mahala, Rebecca, Francis, and Hester Ann. I would like to know if William J. Cayton b. 1798, who first m. Nancy Brock b. 1802, then a widow Nancy Cayton, may also have been Jesse's son. I know he is not listed in the MO History that is often quoted for this family, that is why I'm looking for a will or Bible record.–Thanks for any help–Linda

Source: http://genforum.genealogy.com/caton/messages/48.html Am looking for information regarding where any one of these Catons were before they came to Craven County North Carolina in the 1769 time frame. John, Moses, Solomon and William Caton,

http://genforum.genealogy.com/caton/messages/479.html 02/24/2001.

There was a Moses Caton of Craven County, N.C. who had the following children: M. Cradwick, b. 22 July 1800, Thomas, b. 4 April 1802, Solomon, b.3 Feb. 1804.

These three sons moved to Tennessee and remained there.

The other children were: James, b. 30 March 1811, John, b. 10 June 1814, Jesse, b. 9 April, 1817, daughter, Jessie b. 29 Aug. 1821, and Sally b. 11 April 1829. Charity Bland was one of the three wives of father Moses Caton.

My e-mail address is gean@coastalnet.com

I hope this is helpful. Moses had three brothers that I know of. They were Bur Solomon, William, and John, all of Craven County, N.C. Their father was Willian Caton, who lived in Beaufort County, N.C. He was purchasing land in November, 1744, and that is all that I have been able to find out about him.

I have a Copy of Jessee Caton's will. He mentions his sons Solomon, Moses and John, his daughter Charity Ann and the girls also his wife Charity [Purser of N.C .The 1820 census of White Co. Tn. lists 3 male children and 7 female children in the Jessee Caton household. I knew about Charity Ann, Mary, Olive and Nancy but knew of no others. In the Robert Purser [of N.C.] will he mentions a Sarah Caton, daughter of Charity Caton. Jessee is my ggg grandfather through Moses, Harvey William, William Edgar and Georgia. Harvey came to MO. in about 1870. He died in1931. Thought you might find this interesting. Sincerely, Maxine

There are (at least) two (contemporary) Jesse Catons. One is the son of Charles Caton of Maryland and the other is part of the Moses Solomon William Caton family that is first seen in Craven Co, NC. The Charles Caton family moved to Rowan Co, NC and the first names make the folks easy to confuse. The two families may be related, but none of us have found any supporting docs yet, and no DNA tests have been done to date either (Sep 08)

Jesse Caton of the Charles group married Esther Sparks daughter of Jonas Sparks. He moved to Kentucky and then Missouri
