2. I also have some missing information of Jesse Dildine b. 1830. My Great Granddad, William H. Dildine, b. 1855, d. 1936 seems to be missing from Jesse's children. I have a picture page of the 1860 Census showing Jese (Jesse) Dildine, 30 yr. old shoe maker born in Ohio, Amia (Amy) 24 yr. old, born in Indiana, Sarah E. 7 yr old, Wm H. (William H.) 4 yr old and Maria (Amanda Maria), 1 yr old. Your web site doesn't show a William H., however, it shows a “James” at the end of Amanda Maria Ketchum, I wonder if James and William H. is one of the same?

BIOGRAPHICAL AND HISTORICAL RECORD OF JAY AND BLACKFORD COUNTIES, INDIANA The Lewis Publishing Company, 1887. P 849-850

JESSE DILDINE, who has been a resident of Blackford County for more than a half a century, was born in Hancock County, Ohio, the date of his birth being April 7, 1830. When he was a lad of seven years his parents, Sampson and Sarah (Highlands) Dildine, came to Blackford County, and settled in Licking Township on a heavily timbered tract of land, on which not a stick had been cut, their land adjoining the present site of Hartford City. He the subject of this sketch was reared amid wild surroundings of pioneer life, his youth being spent in hard work, assisting his father clear and cultivate their farm. His education was received in the first schools taught in Blackford County, which were held in rude log cabins of the most primitive description. At the age of eighteen years he began learning the shoemaker's trade, which he followed for a period of twenty years. He was married August 5, 1852 to Miss. Amy Bolinger, who was born in Licking County, Ohio, March 29, 1836, a daughter of William and Elizabeth (Sunderland) Bolinger. They are the parents of seven children, named as follows Mrs. Sarah E. Bugh, Mrs. Amanda Maria Ketchum James, (Transcriber's note no comma between Ketchum and James) Allen, Elnora, Eva May and Effie W. Mr. Dildine located on his present farm in Jackson Township, in 1879, where he has forty acres of valuable land, thirty acres being cleared and under a high state of cultivation. In politics he affiliates with the Democratic party. While a resident of Licking Township he served some time as constable. Mr. Dildine has witnessed the many wonderful changes which have transformed the surrounding country from a wilderness into its present prosperous condition, and in every enterprise for the advancement of his township or county he has taken an active interest.

Jessee Dildine b 7 April, 1830 mar spouse unknown daughter Amanda Maria Dildine. Maria Amanda Dildine was my grandmother and I have most of this history to present date.

The spouse unknown is very complicated. I did not understand it until I found a will in probate which tried to establish the correct name. However there have been so many spellings of this name that I really do not believe anyone knows for sure what it is. There were 3 brothers from Blackford County in the Civil War and we still have not figured out what the correct name is. Hartford City, IN is going to put a monument on the Court House Square listing all of the Blackford county residents who served in the Civil War. I also have some copies of 2 Dildines who had their autobiographical sketches written up and published in the late 1800's.
