When you see Clara & Alene tell them hello for me

Erick OK March 6, 1994

Dear Jo

I was so glad to get your letter and information on family. I can add very little to it. I wasn't about to mess up yur chart so mad one of my family. I hope you can make it out. I'm getting a little shaky to write a decent hand. I'm 87. I was between Rosy & Annie Mae - we had some good times playing together. My health is fair and I do still live in my home alone. Lost my husband in 1985. My daughter lives 25 miles, John 150 so they are a great help. Have 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Back to the family. I was 11 or twelve years old when granma died. She and I were pals and she did talk a lot about her early life.

If I remember right both families (Morgan & Rutherford) faught in Civil War on different sides so if I'm right you can write the war department in D.C and there should be a record there. When my son comes home I'll give him what information you have and he may be able to get more. He has his Doyle relatives traced back to Ireland. Also have the Pennington legacy traced back to 1700.

If we either one get any more information lets get it together. John was home last week so will probably be a while before I see him but I'm sure he will be interested in the Morgan heritage.

I know very little about Aunt Kate's family. Here daughter Lela Payne lived in Okla for several years. In fact she and her busband Fred Payne died in […] Texas but she had two daughters lived in Amarillo but I havn't heard from them since Lola's death in 1980.

When my parents married papa was living with grandma. The other children were all married and they had lived on this farm for a long time. I wish you had started this before Amos died. He came to Okla to see Archie & I and I asked him about this family tradedy. It's something we never talked about. Grandma didn't want it mentioned around papa. I don't know if he ever married but supposed he had. He didn't live with grandma & papa and had came back to visit. I remember a lady came to see grandma one time and I have always thought she was […] daughter - but that's been a long time ago we moved to Oklahoma in 1919. So I've lived in Beckham Co most of my life. When papas health failed and he had to quit farming, Archie & I bought his farm and we raised our two kids there and lived there until 1972. Arch […] retired and we moved into Erick where Archie died. He was still farming wheat in the last. Farming was his life and he loved it.

One of Uncle Ruben's sons (Houston) came out here in or about 1929 and lived iwth my parents for a few years then went to Calif and married there. We visited him in Calif several times. My sister and famiy lived close by. Seemed like he kinda took my bro Robert's place. They were the same age and played together so much when there were small.

Hope this has helped you a little.

The only picture I have of grandma is the same you have [entarged ?]. I remember the enlarged one.

Love Ethel.
