Source: Genealogical History of the Rutherford Family; Wm Kenneth Rutherford & Anna Clay Rutherford The following is taken from the above source. Because of a poor photocopy, I am not sure of all spelling:

Archibald Rutherford and John Rutherford participated in the battle of Ready Fork in North Carolina during the Revolutionary Was as their detachment was enroute to join forces with Gen. Nathaniel Greene. The brothers were allowed claims 8 May 1782 in Montgomery County, Virginia, for their services rendered at Ready Fork.

Archibald Rutherford was a resident of Washington County, Virginia, in 1783 and was enumerated on the Virginia tax list as a resident of Montgomery County in 1787. Moving westward in Virginia he established residence near his kinsmen in Lincoln County where his name appeared on the Kentucky tax list in 1794. Archibald Rutherbord, James Kenley, and Joseph Rutherford witnessed the signature of John Rutherford of Lincoln County, Kentucky, in September 1791. Archibald Rutherford moved to Jessamine County, Kentucky, and was enumerated on the census records of 1800, 1810, and 1820 as a resident of Jessamine County.

Shortly afterwards Archibald Rutherford changed his place of residence as he made application for a pension in the circuit court of Logan County, Kentucky, 24 May 1821 at the age of sixty-six. A pension was granted to him through the Kentucky Agency on his established military record. He served in the 7th Regiment of the Virginia Continental Line in Capt. Joseph Crockett's company of Col. McClananham's Regiment. He enlisted in 1776 and was discharged in 1779.

Elizabeth, widow of Archibald Rutherford, received a pension. Here application included testimonials of James Kenley of Boyle County, Kentucky; Joseph Rutherford of Randolph County, Missouri; and her son, Archibald Rutherford, Jr., who was also of Randolph County, Missouri.
