Robert Lee Hicks was born 18 January 1867 in Henderson Kentucky. He migrated to Crandall Texas sometime before 1890. It is believed that he migrated with a brother and a nephew who was named Dave Hicks, born 1873 in Henderson, Kentucky. It is also believed that a niece, Lillie Hicks, migrated with him.

He married Zona Francis Green 10 Dec 1891 in Kaufman County. Zona Francis Green was the daughter of Samuel "Pep" Green and his wife Martha Jaco, all of whom were from McMinneville, Warren County, Tennessee. The Green family resided in Crandall according to the 1900 census.

Land records from the Kaufman County Courthouse indicate that he bought and sold land in Crandall during the years 1893 through 1896. At the time of his premature death, on 6 December 1898, he was the proprietor of a saloon in Crandall. He is buried in Blackland Cemetery.

He and his wife Zona had four children, all of whom were born in Crandall. Baxter, born September 1892, was killed in WWI. Bennett, born 11 June 1894, also a WWI veteran, fathered Verne and Francis Hicks, eventually migrated and died in Los Angeles. Robert Lee Hicks, Jr., born 23 February 1896, also a WWI veteran, married Willie Mae Morgan of Blossom, Texas, fathered Robert, Lee, Glen and Jack Hicks, migrated to California and is buried in Martinez, California. Bessie, born 1898, married John Harvey and was the mother of Ruth, Sarah Francis and John Harold Harvey. She died in Paris, Texas in 1987.

After his death his widow Zona married Elias Jesse Burns, born 1871 in Mississippi. They farmed in the Crandall area at least until 1910 and then moved to Blossom, Texas, where both are buried.

More information can be obtained from Mark Hicks, great-grandson of Robert Lee Hicks at one of the following email addresses: mhicks@bizmark.com, at the Hicks family website at http://www.phyllisandglen.org

Am reasonable sure that William's father was one of the Hicks' family that arrived in Hickman County at the same time which included William (probably my William's father), Elijah, Berry (Littleberry), James and Gilbert. Although I know the state (Va) and date of birth (9Jan1804) I have not been able to confirm who William's parents were. William's line continued in Hickman County Tennessee to today. My gggparents were Harvy/Hary Hicks, b 1814 and Sarah Nixon, b December 1816, GA. They married on Jan 1, 1835 in Franklin Co., GA. Sarah's brothers were Abner Nixon and possible Millington Asberry Nixon. Sarah, Abner and Millington and families were found in Randolph and Calhoun Co.,'s AL (respectfully) in 1850. Sarah then married William Williamson in Calhoun Co., AL November 15, 1852. I am not a member of the Hicks family, but my future mother-in-law's maiden name is Hicks. Her son and I are amateur genealogists who are having a great deal of fun tracking down the branches of the Hicks family; however, we're not getting too far. We are aware that he is descended from a Hicks who was knighted in the early Middle Ages at the Battle of Poitiers, during the Hundred Years' war. The one family member we would really like to locate is his cousin Cindy. Cindy Lou Hicks was born the daughter of Earl and Patricia Hicks in the Allentown area of Pennsylvania (where most of the family still resides). Some time after Earl's death in a truck crash in 1966, Cindy and her mother moved away and no one knows where they are now. If anyone out there knows Cindy, give a yell
please! :)

children including : Virginia Caldonia (b.1859), Alice(b.1864), Martha Adalibe (b.1865), Zeaman Buck (b.1869), Belle (b.1970), Russell(b1872), Clark(b.1874), Ida (b.1876), Montie (Mont) Calvin (b.1877), Thomas (b.1879), Mary Cordelia (b. 1858). I have hit a wall in trying to establish parentage of Jeremiah Hicks. We have him in the 1850 Dekalb County, GA census as age 30, married to Elizabeth with children William and James. A Caly Jan Hicks age 66 is in the 2nd household down and is probably his mother. We cannot locate him in any 1860 census. We have a marriage certificate for him married to Nancy Pierce in 1868. By 1870 we have him in the Dekalb Co. GA census with Nancy and three children who were obviously from his first wife. The children are Robert, Louisa Jane and Cally. I have death certificates for Robert and Cally, but both list the father as "Jerry Hix" . Robert' lists a ___Wilson and Cally's doesnt list a mother at all. Does anyone have any information as to the wife, parentage and burial place of Jeremiah B. Hicks? In her application for a widow's pension from the Civil War, Nancy Pierce Hicks lists Jeremiah's death date as 1894. ANY information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Carole

Baby was born around 1851, named Ed Hicks. Mother was outcast by both families and was forced to take in laundry to support herself and her child. She later remarried a man by the name of Stewart, who raised her son as his own. They later had children of their own but all names are unknown to me. My leads are so small but if you have any light in the tunnel for me please respond. Thanks Much.! debea

I'm afraid that I don't have a lot to go on but here it goes. I'm searching for a John Hicks from Campbell Cnty .,California Kentucky. as the story goes he married an American Indian (name unknown) maybe around 1849 or 1851. He was killed in a explosion on a riverboat while searching for work. Laving his wife carrying his unborn child. When the child was born she called him Ed. Times were hard for her, his family had cast her out and so had her own family. She was forced to seek employment taking in laundry around Cailfornia.Knty. She latter remarried a man by the name of Stewart who raised her son Ed as his own. They had other children but all names are unknown to me. I think Ed would've been born around 1851. So you see my leads are slim so any and all info is most valuable to me . Thanks so much for any clue you can give. debea

Nathaniel Hicks appears in Burke County Georgia, 1784, moves to Bounty Grant Land on Ohoopee River in what was Washington Co., then Montgomery Co. Some say his wife was Mary Mason, others of us say Jane Pugh. Some say his children included a Nancy and a James (born 1799); others say there was a Reuben and a Francis, too. Francis (b. ca. 1787) married Elizabeth Wood in 1809 and they moved (1) Alabama, then (2) Arkansas and settled outside of Magnolia.
Children of Francis and Elizabeth: Joshua McHenry, James A., Daniel Nathaniel, Jane H.M., John H., William D., Thomas Jefferson, Sarah R., Esther, Mary, Maria Amanda, Nancy, and Elizabeth. This Nathaniel not to be confused with Nathaniel, spouse of Ruth Bugg, nor with their son Nathaniel, spouse of Francis Burton of Columbia/Richmond Counties GA. Current doubt that our Nathaniel (d. by April 1801) is wandering Husband of Nancy Broom.

I've been researching my EADY family for 12 years. Have good size data base of EADY relatives. One of my first relatives. The story starts in 1814 in Montreal, Canada. The British Army's, 1st Battalon, 37th Regiment of the Foot is posted to Lower Canada. (Ontario) In 1819 soldiers are offered a discharge. Privates are given 100 acres of land if they will settle in Lower Canada. I have a list of 64 soldiers from the 37th that accepted. My distant relative Robert Eady Sr. and JOHN HICKS are two of these 64 soldiers. In 1864 Robert Eady Sr. died, his will lists his daughters using they're married names. One of those listed is
ELIZABETH HICKS of Michigan. nee: ELIZABETH EADY b.1811 Cork, Ireland. The 37th Regiment of Foot serviced in Cork, Ireland 1810-1812. She married a JOHN HICKS. He might be the soldier or his son???? She married a JOHN HICKS and family lore has them living in Michigan. I need help! Live in Gibsons, British

Location: Crandall, Texas; Blackland Cemetery.

Directions to Blackland Cemetery:

If you're coming from Dallas...take 175 East towards Crandall. After you
cross the Trinity River Bridge...take the first exit (Forney exit)(741).
Go left over the bridge, pass the stop sign and stay on 741 until you
get to the next paved road (2757) (it's down a little ways but not too
far...you will see an old abandoned house on the right) go left on 2757.
>From there go a little ways and you will see and an old run down house
on the right, the cemetery is right past that house on the left side of
the road. There is a small chainlink fence around two graves at the
front of the cemetery. The grass is very tall. If you keep going down
2757 until it dead-ends and take a right you will be at I-20 (we call it
the new 20) it's only been in service a few years. That way you don't
have to go all the way around to get back to Shreveport or Dallas.
